European T20 Premier League begins with Belfast Wolves victory

The inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) has commenced, featuring six teams from four countries. The tournament, modeled after the Indian Premier League, aims to expand the popularity of cricket across Europe.

In the second match of the season held at Sportpark Westvliet in Voorburg, the Belfast Wolves secured a 52-run victory over the Dublin Guardians. Despite an early struggle that left them at 48 for three, the Wolves reached a total of 184/7. This recovery was driven by a crucial 84-run partnership between Mark Chapman, who scored 54, and captain Glenn Maxwell, who contributed 60 runs. The Wolves' bowling attack subsequently restricted the Guardians to 132/9.

Following the match, Glenn Maxwell was issued an official reprimand for a Level 1 code of conduct offence involving the use of audible obscenity. The matter was resolved through an agreed sanction without a formal hearing, and Maxwell remains available for future fixtures.

Upcoming fixtures include the Amsterdam Flames facing the Edinburgh Castle Rockers on August 28 at Sportpark Duivesteijn.
