European thermal spas and Croatian tourism trends
The Guardian has identified ten of Europe’s most attractive thermal spa destinations, including a location in Slovenia. Other notable mentions include Mariánské Lázně in the Czech Republic, known for its mineral springs and UNESCO status, and German locations such as Bad Kissingen and Bad Wildbad, which offer a mix of historical architecture and modern wellness complexes.
In Croatia, rising costs are impacting the tourism sector. Reports from the German newspaper WELT indicate that significant price increases for food and beverages—such as ice cream and cocktails—have led to emptier beaches and less crowding in areas between Zadar and Split, as well as on certain Dalmatian islands. Despite ideal weather conditions, the high cost of living is being noted as a potential long-term challenge for the region's popularity.
