European towns impose steep fines for bikini and clothing violations

Tourist destinations across Europe are increasingly enforcing clothing regulations, imposing fines on visitors who wear swimwear or insufficient clothing in public areas. In Germany, a visitor to the Warnemünde FKK beach was warned by a beach guard who said, "Guten Tag, ich darf Sie darauf aufmerksam machen, dass Sie sich im FKK‑Bereich befinden," and told that wearing clothing in the designated nudist zone can result in a fine of up to €100.

Similar bans are spreading in other countries. In Italy, mayors have introduced penalties of €50‑€200 for wearing a bikini in town centers, with one official stating, "Die Lebensqualität unserer Einwohner darf nicht auf dem Altar des Massentourismus geopfert werden." Croatia, Portugal, Spain, and France have also set fines ranging from €150 to €1,500 for bikini violations in city streets and shopping areas. The measures are presented as efforts to protect local quality of life and curb the impact of mass tourism.
