European transport groups propose new subcontracting regulations
The European Association of Road Transport Organisations (UETR) and the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) have presented a series of proposals to the European Parliament to regulate subcontracting in the road transport sector.
Key proposals include restricting the number of intermediaries allowed in a single transport operation to prevent value loss and improve traceability. The organizations are also calling for the establishment of joint and several liability across the contracting chain to protect against non-payment and abuses. This measure aims to safeguard small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and self-employed workers.
The initiative, hosted by MEP Johan Danielsson, seeks to create a community regulatory framework that ensures transparency and fair working conditions. The discussion also involves the European Labour Authority (ELA) and comes ahead of the upcoming Quality Employment Act, aiming to foster a more socially and economically sustainable transport market.
