European Union allocates €232 million to combat school dropout in Romania

The European Union is providing 232 million euros for a program in Romania designed to reduce school dropout rates and functional illiteracy. The initiative focuses on providing afterschool support where students receive assistance in various subjects.

In addition to academic help, the program includes the provision of warm meals for students. This approach aims to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, similar to previous initiatives like ‘Cornul și laptele’, which helped increase school attendance by providing essential nutrition.

Eligible schools include institutions such as the ‘Lucreția Suciu’ School in Oradea, Bihor County. The program seeks to formalize the afterschool model, allowing children to remain in a supervised learning environment while receiving meals, which can alleviate the burden on working parents.
