European Union condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Red Sea shipping

The European Union has issued a strong condemnation of Houthi attacks within Yemen, against Saudi Arabia, and targeting shipping in the Red Sea. European Council President Antonio Costa called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged the group to return to negotiations under United Nations auspices.

During a communication with Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi, Costa reaffirmed the EU’s solidarity with the Yemeni government’s efforts to restore stability. This follows a lethal Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10, which reportedly killed 12 people and injured hundreds of civilians.

In a related human rights seminar in The Hague, Yemeni academics and advocates urged European institutions to increase diplomatic pressure regarding the Houthi movement's recruitment and indoctrination of children. Experts estimated that mobilization efforts have affected more than 250,000 children across hundreds of schools, potentially undermining Yemen's national identity and future stability.
