European Union coordinates energy reserve release amid rising fuel prices

The European Union is coordinating a potential release of strategic energy reserves to combat surging diesel and natural gas prices. The Energy Union Task Force is meeting to discuss collective action through the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Analysts suggest a release of 120 million barrels of diesel over six months could represent more than one-third of the EU's total strategic reserves. This comes amid rising concerns regarding U.S. energy policy, as President Donald Trump has indicated he is considering a ban on diesel exports to Europe.

Since late February, natural gas prices have risen by approximately 140%, while diesel prices have doubled. The transport sector, which accounts for 77% of EU diesel consumption, remains highly vulnerable to these market fluctuations.
