European Union Entry/Exit System enhances border security

The European Union's Entry/Exit System (EES) is enhancing border security by digitally registering data for third-country nationals and tracking refused entries. The system aims to identify security risks, combat organized crime, and prevent terrorism by detecting fraudulent identities.

European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner praised Croatia as a leader in the implementation of the EES. Croatian Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović reported that Croatia began gradual implementation in November 2025, reaching full operation at all 77 international border crossings by March 1, 2026, ahead of the European Commission's deadline.

In Croatia, the system has resulted in 7,771 passengers being denied or prevented from entering, accounting for approximately 15 percent of all EU entry refusals to date. Officials noted that the digital infrastructure has processed over 2.3 million individual passenger files and conducted more than 9 million verifications.
