European Union extends civilian missions in Palestinian territories

The Council of the European Union has extended the mandates of two civilian missions in the Palestinian territories for an additional nine months, until June 30, 2027. This decision follows a strategic review by the EU's diplomatic service and takes into account communications from both the Palestinian Authority and Israel.

The first mission, EUBAM Rafah, provides technical assistance and advisory support to Palestinian border officials at the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. Since its redeployment in early 2025 and 2026, the mission has facilitated the movement of over 13,000 travelers.

The second mission, EUPOL COPPS, focuses on supporting the Palestinian Civil Police and judicial institutions, primarily in the West Bank, to enhance the rule of law and civilian security.

In its decision, the European Council reaffirmed its commitment to international law and a two-state solution, expressing readiness to contribute to a comprehensive peace plan for Gaza through these ongoing missions.
