European Union extends roaming-free mobile usage until 2032
The European Union has extended the ‘roaming like at home’ regulation until 2032. This policy allows mobile users to make calls, send SMS, and use data within the EU under their standard domestic tariffs without incurring roaming surcharges.
Under Regulation (EU) 2022/612, the extension includes enhanced protections such as improved service quality, better access to emergency services, and increased transparency regarding value-added services. It also aims to provide better protection against unexpected charges when connecting to non-terrestrial networks on ships and aircraft.
However, the policy is subject to a ‘reasonable use’ principle to prevent permanent roaming in other member states. Additionally, countries outside the EU, such as Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Andorra, are not included in these roaming protections.
