European Union faces industrial, energy, and social crises

The European Union faces significant structural challenges, including industrial crises, energy dependence, and rising social inequality. While the single currency provides a level of stability against speculation, the continent struggles with internal contrasts within the European Commission and a Parliament lacking legislative initiative. Key issues include the impact of offshoring on jobs, the loss of public institutional power through privatization, and a lack of progress in fiscal justice.

Furthermore, the current geopolitical landscape has fostered a ‘war economy’ where transnational investment funds and energy and defense industries report record profits due to market instability. Conversely, ordinary citizens face eroding purchasing power driven by soaring fuel and energy costs. This economic shift is creating a new class of impoverished individuals, including members of the middle class and workers, who may be forced to sacrifice essential services like heating, healthcare, and education due to unsustainable energy expenses.
