European Union invests hundreds of millions in research and innovation
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has allocated €70 million to 35 projects under its 2025 Higher Education Initiative. This funding aims to help higher education institutions across Europe convert research into innovation, enhance entrepreneurship education, and foster deeper collaboration with the business sector. The initiative supports 552 organizations across 49 countries, including universities, research centers, and public authorities.
In a separate effort to strengthen the European Research Area, €411 million has been allocated to 73 projects under the Horizon Europe program. These projects focus on improving access to research technologies and services in critical sectors such as health, climate resilience, agriculture, transport, and manufacturing. The investment also targets professional development for those managing research infrastructures, supporting mobility and new career opportunities to bolster Europe’s scientific competitiveness.
