European Union launches cybersecurity awareness campaign against phishing
The European Union is conducting its annual Cybersecurity Month to promote digital safety among citizens and organizations. Coordinated by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), the European Commission, and member states, the initiative includes conferences, workshops, and webinars to share best practices.
This year’s campaign focuses heavily on phishing and smishing—fraudulent SMS messages designed to steal sensitive information. Scammers often use urgent tones, such as claiming a bank card is blocked or a digital identity like SPID is expiring, to trick users into clicking malicious links. These links lead to clone websites that harvest usernames, passwords, and OTP codes, potentially allowing criminals to access bank accounts, health records, or tax files.
