European Union marks European Day of Jewish Culture

The European Union and the European Commission are observing the European Day of Jewish Culture. This initiative aligns with the EU Strategy to Combat Antisemitism and Support Jewish Life for 2021–2030.

To support this observance, the Commission has released two handbooks designed to assist public authorities and the general public in understanding and protecting Jewish heritage and daily life across Europe. One guide, ‘Presence, Plurality, Continuity’, provides practical tools for local authorities to create safe environments for Jewish communities. The second, ‘A Living Story Across Europe’, maps Jewish heritage sites—including synagogues, museums, and schools—across 30 countries.

Magnus Brunner, Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, stated that protecting Jewish life is an investment in democracy and requires active combat against antisemitism. Additionally, the Commission announced that the first Simone Veil Prize will be awarded on December 3, 2026, to recognize individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving Jewish heritage in Europe.
