European Union QUEST conference addresses strategic autonomy

The QUEST project is hosting a kick-off conference in Brussels focused on the European Union’s pursuit of relational open strategic autonomy (OSA). The event aims to provide a theoretical and conceptual grounding for understanding OSA amidst global challenges such as the war in Ukraine, geopolitical tensions, and the securitization of trade and industry.

Discussions will cover how the EU can achieve strategic autonomy through various frameworks, including instrumental, ethical-political, and reflexive autonomy. Additionally, the conference will address the necessity of building a strong industrial and technological base, specifically examining the EU’s defense capabilities and procurement strategies to secure its internal foundations.
