European Union reaffirms support for multilateralism and the United Nations

During the Gymnich informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers held in Wicklow, Ireland, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to a more effective, robust, and renewed multilateral system. This commitment is based on respect for international law and the principles established by the United Nations Charter.

In response to rising geopolitical tensions, increasing conflicts, and violations of international norms, the EU emphasized that a rules-based global order is essential to protect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. The Union identified the United Nations as an indispensable actor for international security, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.

The EU also expressed support for the implementation of the Pact for the Future, the 2030 Agenda, and the Sustainable Development Goals. To ensure effective multilateralism, the Union aims to strengthen international cooperation to promote gender equality, reinforce democracy, and defend the rule of law while seeking to overcome global divisions through dialogue.
