European Union releases €225,000 in aid for displaced persons in Kebbi

The European Union has released €225,000 (approximately N340 million) in humanitarian aid to support communities displaced by conflict in Kebbi State, Nigeria. The funding will be administered by the Nigerian Red Cross over a six-month period to provide emergency assistance to approximately 7,700 displaced individuals living in settlements and host communities.

The intervention follows a significant deterioration in security across seven local government areas, where organized banditry, armed group activity, and communal violence have caused widespread displacement. While movement began in mid-August, a sharp escalation in violence around August 31 triggered the humanitarian response. The violence has reportedly affected more than 16,600 people.

Priority will be given to vulnerable groups, including female-headed households, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those facing acute protection risks. The aid will primarily consist of multipurpose cash assistance to help families meet immediate needs, alongside protection services and continuous monitoring of population movements by local volunteers.
