European Union soft wheat exports reach 6.30 million tons

European Union soft wheat exports for the 2026/27 marketing season reached 6.30 million metric tons as of September 20, representing a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Romania has emerged as the largest exporter of soft wheat within the bloc for the current season, totaling 2.93 million tons. Other significant contributors include Lithuania with 1.06 million tons, Bulgaria with 0.56 million tons, Poland with 0.51 million tons, and Germany with 0.47 million tons.

The European Commission noted that data completeness is hindered by reporting omissions from several member states. Specifically, export data for France has been incomplete since early 2024, while figures for Bulgaria and Ireland have been missing since the 2023/24 season, and Greek data has been unavailable since January 2026.

In related grain trade developments, EU barley exports reached 1.78 million tons, a slight weekly increase but a 41 percent decline year-on-year. Conversely, maize imports into the EU rose to 4.47 million tons, a 27 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
