European Union suspends fertilizer tariffs to curb agricultural costs
The European Union has suspended import tariffs on fertilizers for one year to combat rising costs in the agricultural sector. However, Russia remains excluded from this suspension, maintaining existing sanctions.
In Germany, the AfD faction in Saxony has proposed extending the tariff suspension to include Russian imports. They argue that the current policy is self-damaging, noting that Russia provided approximately 39 percent of Germany's urea imports through 2024. The faction warns that maintaining sanctions could lead to higher inflation and increased food prices, especially given potential supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
