The European Union is implementing new digital identification systems for vehicles as part of the Euro 7 regulations. This includes the Environmental Vehicle Passport (EVP), which will provide standardized data such as VIN, make, model, fuel/energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and certified range for electric vehicles.

Starting November 29, 2026, all new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles must possess an EVP upon their first type-approval. By November 29, 2027, the passport will be mandatory for all new vehicle registrations in these categories. Data will be accessible via QR codes or vehicle infotainment systems and will remain available for 20 years.

Additionally, a dedicated digital battery passport for electric vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and industrial batteries with a capacity above 2 kWh will take effect on February 18, 2027. This system aims to improve transparency for repairs, resale, and recycling. Under Euro 7, manufacturers must also guarantee that EV battery capacity remains above 80% after five years or 100,000 km, and above 72% after eight years or 160,000 km.
