European Union unemployment rate holds at 6.1 percent in July

The unemployment rate in the European Union remained stable at 6.1 percent in July, according to seasonally adjusted data from Eurostat. This figure matches the rate recorded in June.

The Czech Republic reported the lowest unemployment rate in the EU at 3.3 percent, although this represents a 0.1 percentage point increase from June. Poland followed with the second-lowest rate at 3.4 percent, while Slovenia and Malta both recorded 3.5 percent.

In the eurozone, the unemployment rate stood at 6.4 percent, consistent with June levels. While the eurozone rate is currently lower than the 6.3 percent recorded in July of the previous year, the total number of unemployed persons in the eurozone has increased by 175,000 compared to the same month last year.

Youth unemployment (under age 25) in the EU was 15.1 percent in July, a decrease from 15.6 percent in the previous month. In the eurozone, the youth unemployment rate was 14.9 percent.
