European Universities Games 2026 open in Salerno, Italy

The European Universities Games 2026 will open tomorrow evening with a ceremony in Piazza della Libertà in Salerno. The event, organized by the University of Salerno, CUS Salerno and ADISUR with support from the Campania Region, brings together around 4,000 athletes from 171 European universities. More than 3,000 athletes are already housed in the Fisciano and Baronissi residences, and the opening program includes a parade of delegations and a cultural showcase.

In the sporting competitions, the Italian UNIMORE/CUS Mo. Re volleyball team opened its campaign with a 3‑0 defeat to the defending champions, University of Rostock (Germany), with set scores of 18‑25, 21‑25 and 20‑25. UNIMORE’s standout player, Signorini, scored 17 points. The team will play its next group match against the University of Valencia on 19 July.
