European University Rowing Championships held in Zagreb
The 16th EUSA European University Rowing Championships were held in Zagreb, Croatia, from August 26 to 29, featuring over 460 athletes from 75 universities across 23 countries.
Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) achieved a significant rise in the European University Sports Association (EUSA) rankings, moving from fourth to second place. VDU students Benas Paunksnis and Giedrius Bieliauskas won the gold medal in the men's double sculls, while Geraldas Gavrilovas secured a bronze medal in the men's single sculls.
Croatian representatives performed strongly, with the University of Zagreb winning six gold medals across various disciplines, including the mixed eight, men's coxless four, and women's lightweight single sculls. Combined with athletes from the University of Split and Rochester Institute of Technology, Croatian participants earned nine medals in total. While Great Britain led the overall medal count with eleven, Croatia and Germany tied for second with nine medals each.
