European Week of Sport 2026 promotes regional physical activity

The European Week of Sport 2026, a continent-wide initiative to promote active lifestyles, will take place from September 23 to 30. Various organizations across Europe are organizing community-based activities to encourage physical movement.

In Ireland, Swim Ireland is participating in the national movement led by Sport Ireland under the #BeActive banner. Scheduled activities include open water swimming sessions in Monaghan, Cork, and Dublin, as well as teen diving camps, autism-friendly sessions, and wheelchair-friendly trials. The program also features introductory weightlifting sessions and beach hockey.

In Portugal, the University of Porto is supporting the campaign through the U. Porto #BEACTIVE 2026 initiative. Coordinated by the IPDJ and promoted by the European Commission, the university's sports center is offering free fitness classes, including Tabata, Afro-Urban Dance, and Yoga/Mindfulness. Additionally, a six-kilometer solidarity walk will be held on September 26 in collaboration with the REVIRES volunteer network.
