European wine and bistro culture adapt to shifting consumer trends

The European wine and hospitality sectors are navigating shifting cultural and consumer trends. In France, there is a growing movement to protect the social and cultural practices associated with bistros and cafés. These establishments are viewed as vital hubs for social aggregation and historical continuity, serving as spaces for intellectual and artistic exchange.

In Italy, specifically in the Orvieto region, the wine industry is adapting to changing health-conscious and cultural preferences by developing low-alcohol wines. Enologist Riccardo Cotarella suggests that producing wines with alcohol content below seven percent can be achieved through natural processes, such as early harvesting, rather than artificial manipulation. This shift aims to meet market demand, particularly among younger consumers, while maintaining product quality.
