European youth face rising barriers to financial independence

Young adults across the European Union are facing increasing difficulty achieving financial independence due to a rising cost of living that outpaces wage growth. In major metropolitan hubs such as Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam, the cost of housing has become a primary barrier to adulthood.

Data indicates that many young professionals in their twenties must dedicate more than half of their net income to rent alone. This financial pressure leaves little remaining for essential expenses such as food, transportation, or savings, effectively turning the traditional rite of passage of moving into a first independent apartment into a luxury reserved for a minority.
