European youth organizations call for international strike on November 20

A coalition of student and youth organizations across Europe has called for an international strike on November 20. The mobilization, described by organizers as one of the largest coordinated anti-militarist student movements in recent years, encourages students to walk out of schools, colleges, and universities.

In the United Kingdom, the National Education Union (NEU), Europe’s largest education union, has voted unanimously to support the action. The NEU expressed support for the right of young people to peacefully organize and opposed disciplinary actions against participating students. Additionally, the National Union of Students (NUS) announced its participation, citing concerns over the recent autumn budget, student loan issues, and university funding.

In Germany, protesters are targeting military rearmament, potential conscription, and budget cuts to social services. Other primary grievances driving the movement include rising prices, a shortage of affordable housing, and reductions in education and social service funding.
