Europeans support higher taxes on Big Tech companies

A survey conducted by SWG and Polling Europe indicates that a vast majority of Europeans support increasing taxes on large technology companies. While there is broad consensus on the need for higher levies, opinions differ on implementation: 39% favor an EU-level tax with proceeds going to the Union budget, while 29% prefer national taxation. Only 11% of respondents are entirely opposed to the measure.

In Italy, support for an EU-wide tax is higher than the average, with 46% favoring the option compared to 39% across the EU.

The survey also highlights support for ‘EU Incorporated,’ a proposed simplified corporate regime that would allow businesses to be established online and recognized across all 27 EU member states. 69% of European citizens view this measure as important for economic integration and reducing bureaucracy.

Regarding industrial policy, public opinion is split on whether citizens would accept slightly higher prices for products if it helped return strategic industrial production to Europe. 48% are in favor of this trade-off, while 40% are opposed.
