Europe's Electric Bus Push: London Routemaster Conversion and Bolloré Bluebus Launch

Yorkshire EV specialist Magtec has completed the world’s first electric conversion of the iconic 1960s London Routemaster bus. The restored vehicle, operated by Golden Tours, houses a 200 kWh battery that provides a 120‑mile range while preserving the original bodywork and red livery. The project, unveiled on 16 April 2026, marks the first step in a planned series of electric conversions of historic Routemasters.

French transport group Bolloré introduced the Bluebus 6‑meter electric minibus, fitted with solid‑state lithium‑polymer batteries mounted in the roof. The compact vehicle can carry up to 22 passengers, features a low‑floor entry with optional ramp, and targets narrow urban streets, neighborhood routes and shuttle services. Designed for quiet, zero‑emission operation, the Bluebus aims to meet European city‑public‑transport tender requirements and offers flexible depot or on‑route charging options.
