European electric bus registrations near 30% market share in H1 2026

Zero‑emission buses are closing in on a 30 % share of the European commercial‑vehicle market in the first half of 2026, driven by strong growth in electric‑bus sales. Registrations of electric buses rose 56.8 % year‑on‑year, lifting their market share from 21.6 % to 27.7 %, while overall bus registrations increased 22.7 % to 22,590 units. The broader commercial‑vehicle market saw 171,933 new trucks (up 9.8 %) and 22,590 new buses (up 22.7 %). Electric trucks also grew, with registrations up 47.7 % but still only 3.6 % of the truck market. Diesel remains dominant, powering 92.1 % of new trucks and 58.2 % of all commercial‑vehicle registrations. Germany led electric‑truck registrations, accounting for roughly 43 % of EU totals, while Italy multiplied its electric‑bus registrations by more than four, becoming the continent’s largest market for that segment.
