Eurostat: One in three EU citizens subscribe to streaming services

Eurostat data from 2025 reveals that nearly one in three internet users in the European Union (32.7%) subscribed to paid streaming services for movies, series, or sports. This category remains the most popular digital subscription in the EU.

Music streaming follows as the second most common, with 23% of users paying for such services. Subscriptions for online news, newspapers, or magazines stood at 7.2%, while gaming streaming services accounted for 6.1% of users.

Regional disparities are significant. Ireland and Denmark recorded the highest subscription rates for film, series, and sports at 63.9% and 61.1% respectively, followed by the Netherlands at 59.2%. Conversely, Bulgaria reported the lowest engagement at 9.3%. Other countries with lower subscription rates include Slovenia (13.7%), Latvia (16.7%), and Lithuania (17.4%).
