Eurovision Song Contest announces new rules for 2027

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced significant rule changes for the Eurovision Song Contest, effective from 2027. These updates impact hosting eligibility, participant age, and performance standards.

Under the new regulations, a winning country can only host the competition if it maintains a stable security situation. If a nation is deemed unsuitable due to armed conflict, geopolitical tensions, or other serious threats, the EBU reserves the right to appoint a different broadcaster as host. The organization may commission independent security assessments to evaluate a region's stability.

Additionally, the minimum age for participants will increase from 16 to 18 years to protect younger artists from the pressures of international competition. The rules also mandate that lead vocals must be performed entirely live on stage, prohibiting the use of pre-produced vocal support.
