Eurowings flights divert to Cyprus and Austria due to technical issues
A Eurowings Airbus A320 experienced technical issues during flights between Israel and Germany on October 6, 2026, resulting in unplanned landings.
One flight (EW9974) traveling from Düsseldorf to Tel Aviv made an unscheduled stop at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus. The airline reported a technical indicator related to one of the aircraft's engines. A spokesperson described the warning as non-critical and stated there was no safety risk to the 156 passengers or the crew. The aircraft underwent technical checks in Cyprus before continuing to Ben Gurion Airport with a two-hour delay.
Separately, another Eurowings flight departing from Tel Aviv for Düsseldorf was forced to divert to Vienna. After reaching an altitude of over 11,000 meters, the aircraft entered a descent over Hungary and performed a turn near Vienna at approximately 1,000 meters. While the specific cause for this diversion remained unclear, no incidents were reported on board. The aircraft remained on the ground in Vienna for approximately two hours before completing its journey to Düsseldorf.
