Eurozone services growth and Italian industrial output dip in April‑May 2026

Eurostat reported that seasonally adjusted services production in the euro area rose 0.7% in April 2026, matching the EU-wide increase. Monthly growth was strongest in Belgium (2.1%), Greece (1.6%) and Bulgaria (1.5%). On an annual basis the euro area saw a 1.8% rise, driven by a 5.9% increase in information and communication. Declines were recorded in real estate and administrative services.

Italy's National Institute of Statistics (Istat) estimated that industrial production fell 0.3% month‑on‑month in May 2026, ending a three‑month run of increases that left the three‑month average 0.9% higher than the preceding quarter. The only sector with a notable monthly rise was energy (+4.6%). Manufacturing of transport equipment posted the largest sectoral gain (+11.6%), while consumer goods output fell 3.2%. Year‑on‑year, most sectors posted gains except for consumer goods, which declined.
