EV charging cable theft rises in Italy
Theft of electric vehicle (EV) charging cables is becoming a significant criminal issue in Italy. Over the past twelve months, more than 450 public charging stations have been targeted by thieves, with high-power chargers being the most frequent victims. These raids, often attributed to organized crime groups using professional tools like angle grinders, result in losses exceeding 1.4 million euros annually, with individual thefts costing approximately 3,000 euros.
In response, the company Formula Space has introduced the CableGuard system, specifically the V4 cut protection variant. This technical solution utilizes a protective sleeve designed to interfere with the mechanics of a cut. When a grinder makes contact with the material, the barrier slows the tool's progress, making the theft attempt significantly louder and more time-consuming to increase the likelihood of detection and deterrence.
