EV charging networks IONITY and Iberdrola expand infrastructure and access
IONITY has launched direct access to its high-power electric vehicle charging network in Portugal via its mobile application. Following legislative changes regarding electric mobility, drivers can now search for stations, initiate charging, and manage payments directly through the app without an intermediary provider. The network, which has operated in Portugal since 2021, currently includes 106 charging points across 20 locations. IONITY is offering various subscription models, including monthly and annual plans, to provide lower per-kWh rates for regular users.
In a separate development in the electric mobility sector, Iberdrola is accelerating its infrastructure deployment, installing more than 100 charging points daily for homes, businesses, and public spaces. The company has surpassed 97,000 total installed charging points, including over 85,000 in the private sector and more than 12,000 public points. Iberdrola currently holds a market share of over 20% of the public chargers in its region, managing more than 10,000 daily recharges.
