EV industry updates: Tesla battery longevity and Geely fast-charging

Developments in the electric vehicle sector highlight both long-term battery durability and advancements in ultra-fast charging technology.

In Australia, a Tesla Model S 75D owned by Nigel Raynard has reached approximately 966,000 kilometers (600,000 miles) after eight years of service as a limousine. The vehicle's original battery pack lasted for 666,666 kilometers before being replaced under warranty with a 90 kWh pack. The owner noted that charging speeds had slowed significantly toward the end of the first battery's lifespan.

Meanwhile, Chinese automaker Geely has announced its ‘Geely Smart Charge’ system, aiming to outperform BYD’s ‘Flash Charging’ technology. Geely claims its future charging stations can reach a maximum power of 2,250 kW, enabling a 10% to 70% charge in approximately four minutes and 30 seconds. This would slightly edge out BYD’s current capability of reaching a 10% to 70% charge in five minutes.
