EV travel confidence rises as new EU pet regulations take effect

A survey by Alphabet indicates that electric vehicle (EV) owners are increasingly comfortable using their cars for long-distance holidays. Approximately 79 percent of EV owners have already taken at least one trip in an electric vehicle, and 94 percent say they could imagine doing so in the future. In contrast, non-EV owners express more skepticism, with only 51 percent willing to use an electric car for vacations. Younger demographics, specifically Gen Z, show the highest interest, with 73 percent of those under 30 open to EV holiday travel.

Separately, new European Union regulations regarding pet travel have come into effect as of April 2026. These rules aim to improve animal health and safety during private travel within and into the EU. Key changes include a limit of five animals (including dogs, cats, and ferrets) per vehicle to distinguish private travel from commercial transport. Additionally, pet passports must now include more precise information, such as clearer identification of the country of origin.
