EVA Air and Microsoft partner to reduce air cargo emissions via SAF

EVA Air has signed a memorandum of understanding with AIT Worldwide Logistics to advance its ‘Green Transportation Program’ over the next two years. As part of this initiative, Microsoft will receive environmental credits equivalent to approximately 15,000 metric tons of CO2e in the first year through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The program aims to reduce Microsoft’s Scope 3 emissions related to the air transport of equipment for its cloud infrastructure. The flights will originate from Taiwan using SAF provided by Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (FPCC). This fuel is produced from used cooking oil (UCO) and is certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system.

Compared to conventional jet fuel, SAF can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80 percent over its entire lifecycle. This collaboration seeks to establish a scalable model to support corporate customers in meeting their decarbonization goals and accelerating the aviation industry’s transition toward net-zero emissions.
