Eva Lys finds financial security through social media after Australian Open breakthrough

German tennis player Eva Lys, now ranked inside the world’s top 100, discussed her long‑standing financial worries on the U.S. podcast “Nothing Major Show.” She said, “I have a very strange relationship with my finances, because my whole life that’s always been a major concern.” Until reaching the round of 16 at the 2025 Australian Open, she feared that lower results would leave her in financial straits. After receiving her first Australian Open paycheck she felt relief, noting, “After I received my first paycheck from the Australian Open, I knew: I don’t have to worry this year.”

Lys now supplements her earnings through social‑media activity, with about 365,000 Instagram followers, which she says provides extra security during injury periods. After a prolonged knee injury and a recent first‑round withdrawal in Toronto, she hopes to return at the Cincinnati tournament starting 13 August, where she has arranged to meet podcast hosts Sam Querrey and John Isner.
