Eva Stanzl receives Austrian State Prize for Science Journalism

Eva Stanzl, science editor at Wiener Zeitung and chair of the Club of Educational and Science Journalists of Austria, has been awarded the Austrian State Prize for Science Journalism. The award was presented by Federal Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner during a ceremony at the Federal Chancellery.

In addition to the main prize, Katharina Kropshofer, head of the nature department at Falter, received the promotion prize for her commitment to climate protection and inclusion. Gerald Heidegger, head of current affairs at ORF Wissen, was honored with the recognition prize for his expertise regarding the Vienna State Opera.

Separately, Minister Holzleitner addressed the Club of Educational and Science Journalists regarding upcoming budget negotiations. She noted that securing the Research, Technology, and Innovation Pact (FTI-Pakt) for 2027–2029 will be a challenge due to federal austerity measures, though she intends to maintain the legally mandated growth path for research funding.
