Ladysmith considers new local business signage and animal bylaws

The town of Ladysmith is pursuing two distinct municipal initiatives. First, the Committee of the Whole has supported a recommendation to install ‘Shop Local, Shop Ladysmith, Buy Canadian’ signage at highway entrances and Aggie Hall. The signs are intended to promote local businesses and Canadian products during periods when the signage is not being used for community event advertising.

Separately, the town is working to modernize its animal regulations through a proposed Animal Responsibility Bylaw. This new legislation aims to replace outdated rules from 1995 and 2024, consolidating regulations for dogs, cats, poultry, goats, and livestock under a single framework. The update seeks to move away from breed-specific provisions and address concerns regarding feral cat populations by regulating unsterilized cats and those without identification.
