Evan Ovadia develops method to connect Rust with other languages
Evan Ovadia, a former Google engineer and Mojo core contributor, has developed an experimental method to improve interoperability between Rust and other programming languages. Dubbed the ‘Golden Spike,’ this work aims to bypass the limitations of the standard C Application Binary Interface (ABI).
Traditionally, using a Rust library in another language requires stripping data down to raw primitives to fit the C ABI. Ovadia’s approach allows for the passing of generic data types and functions between compilers, preserving richer capabilities. This development arose from Ovadia’s work on Valen, a new programming language intended to be a faster, more developer-friendly alternative to Rust that can still utilize existing Rust libraries.
