Evan Rachel Wood criticizes recasting in Practical Magic sequel

Actress Evan Rachel Wood has expressed disappointment regarding her exclusion from the upcoming sequel to the 1998 film ‘Practical Magic’. Wood, who played Kylie Owens in the original movie, stated that she was not contacted by anyone from the original cast or production to reprise her role, despite having offered her services for even a small appearance.

In the sequel, the role of Kylie Owens is being played by Joey King, while Maisie Williams takes over the role of Antonia Owens. Wood noted on Instagram that while no one from the original film reached out, Joey King did contact her, describing King as a ‘sweetheart’.

Director Susanne Bier addressed the recasting, stating that the decision was not personal. Bier explained that because the children in the story have now finished college, the production needed to engage new actors.
