Evan Siddall named inaugural chair of Build Canada Homes

Evan Siddall has been appointed as the inaugural board chair of Build Canada Homes, the federal government’s affordable housing agency. The appointment follows the agency’s transition to a Crown corporation in June.

Siddall previously served as the CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC) from 2013 to 2021, where he contributed to the development of the national housing strategy. His professional background includes roles as vice-chair at BMO Capital Markets, leadership at the AIMCo pension fund manager, and positions at Goldman Sachs and Irving Oil. He also served as a special adviser to Mark Carney during Carney’s tenure as governor of the Bank of Canada.

According to a federal release, Siddall will exercise the board’s powers unilaterally until a formal process is completed to appoint at least eight additional directors.
