Spain's travel agencies adapt to cautious summer travel demand

A new Observatorio Nacional del Turismo Emisor report shows that 89% of Spaniards intend to travel this summer, but many are planning more carefully and watching budgets. The study notes a shift toward shorter trips, early bookings and a strong preference for domestic destinations, with 65% planning to stay within Spain.

Travel‑agency providers are responding to these trends. Expedia’s Travel Agent Affiliate Program unveiled a back‑office API and custom booking reference codes to help agencies automate data integration, reduce manual reconciliation and scale operations. Meanwhile, local agencies in Cádiz are urged to boost their Google SEO to capture travelers during the longer online research phase, as studies indicate 20‑30 searches precede a booking.

At the same time, platform Evaneos promotes a model that links travelers directly with vetted local agencies worldwide, emphasizing tailored itineraries and sustainable tourism, with up to 85% of trip costs staying with local partners. Together, these developments highlight a broader move toward digital tools, data efficiency and localized expertise in the travel‑agency sector.
