Evangelia Liakouli criticizes Greek government energy response
Evangelia Liakouli, the PASOK-KINAL spokesperson for Justice, Institutions, and Transparency, has criticized the Greek government for its perceived inaction regarding the energy crisis and rising fuel costs.
Liakouli highlighted the burden of double taxation on fuel, noting that citizens face both a Special Consumption Tax and a 24% VAT. She argued that a gradual reduction of the special tax, a measure PASOK-KINAL has advocated for 18 months, would subsequently lower the VAT. She contrasted Greece's response with measures taken by countries such as Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, Liakouli addressed the general wave of inflation and criticized government communication efforts. She specifically cited a supermarket price agreement as a failure, noting that consumer unions have already identified products that have deviated from the agreed terms.
