Evangelos Liolis referred to sports prosecutor amid basketball investigation

The Hellenic Committee for Professional Sports (ECA) has referred Evangelos Liolis, president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK), to the sports prosecutor and the EPATHLA authority. This follows a 75-page decision detailing allegations of long-term violations and potential match-fixing.

The ECA investigation concluded that Liolis exercised substantial control over the basketball club AEK Promitheas Patras while serving as EOK president, acting as its owner, manager, and representative. This finding highlights significant issues regarding legality and conflicts of interest. The committee also noted references to three referees linked to potential basketball match-fixing, a matter now referred to judicial authorities for in-depth investigation.

As part of the sanctions, the ECA has revoked the participation certificate of AEK Promitheas Patras for the 2025-2026 season and imposed fines totaling 60,000 euros: 50,000 euros for the club and 10,000 euros for Liolis.
