Evanston Hospital bomb threat investigated; hospital reopens
On Tuesday evening the Evanston Police Department responded to a bomb threat at Evanston Hospital (2650 Central Ave). Officers located a suspicious package with exposed wires outside the building, established a secure perimeter and called in the Cook County Bomb Squad while the fire department deployed a drone for aerial assessment.
The hospital was placed on lockdown at 5:01 p.m., prompting Northwestern University’s TripShot shuttle service to reroute inter‑campus shuttles and authorities to close surrounding streets. Ambulances were diverted to nearby hospitals. The lockdown was lifted at 6:45 p.m., and the final road closure reopened by 7:15 p.m. Endeavor Health communicated that there was “no immediate threat” to the public and the facility remained open.
