Eve Air Mobility and Hitachi Energy partner to electrify eVTOL infrastructure in São Paulo

Eve Air Mobility, a subsidiary of Embraer, and Hitachi Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop electric‑power and rapid‑charging solutions for electric vertical take‑off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs). The agreement, signed simultaneously in Brazil and the United States, initially targets vertiports in São Paulo and New York, cities identified as early hubs for urban air‑mobility services.

The partnership will adapt Hitachi’s Grid‑eMotion technology to provide “grid‑to‑plug” charging that connects the national power network directly to aircraft chargers, managing high‑power demand, fast‑charge cycles and integration with existing grids. Eve plans to use the infrastructure to support operators such as Revo, which has already placed an order for Eve’s eVTOLs. The deal also includes evaluation of re‑using aircraft batteries for stationary energy storage after their flight life ends.

Executives highlighted the challenge of Brazil’s nearly 99%‑connected but still vulnerable distribution network, noting the need for reliable, high‑capacity power to avoid outages that could disrupt eVTOL operations. The collaboration aims to create a scalable, safe charging ecosystem that will enable commercial aerial taxi services in dense urban areas.
